Student Responsibilities in the Advising Relationship

 

As a student, it is your responsibility to:


  • Inform the OneStop of changes in your local address and phone numbers
  • Check your mailbox, campus email, and phone messages regularly
  • Make appointments with your advisor for pre-registration (during the three-week advising periods each semester) and other advising (during your advisor’s office hours)
  • Plan tentative course schedules in advance of each advising appointment during the pre-registration period
  • Be on time for advising appointments and contact advisor if you are unable to keep your appointments
  • Initiate questions about your degree program(s)
  • Discuss your long-range goals with your advisor
  • Check course descriptions for prerequisites before choosing  a course
  • Refer to the University Catalog for information on majors, academic policies, deadlines and degree requirements
  • Explore majors that are of interest to you
  • Use your online transcript and degree audit to track academic progress
  • Remember that courses dropped or failed should be taken into account when making up your tentative schedule
  • Make final decisions about choices concerning academic matters
  • Follow through on referrals made by your advisor
  • Ask questions when you do not know
